Achilles Inflatable Boats

Achilles inflatable boats are manufactured using a high quality fabric made by Achilles called chlorosulphonated polyethylene (CSM), a synthetic rubber compound referred to as "hypalon."
CSM can not be heat welded, so all Achilles Boats are glued by hand, consisting of four layers of fabric: two inside layers of chloroprene for air retention, a supporting layer of core fabric, and an outside coating of CSM. It is a multi-step calendaring process resulting is a very strong fabric with UV resistance, abrasion resistance, and resistance to oil and gas, all things inflatable boats are subject to in the marine environment.
Achilles uses CSM despite higher costs because it has proven to be the best material for manufacturing inflatable yacht boats. Many competitors have cheap PVC boats available at half the cost, so although Achilles are more expensive, it actually proves an important point: Despite the fact that Achilles is a world leader in the manufacture of PVC, Achilles boats are only made out of CSM because it is simply better fabric.
