Both the F40 and F30 are four-stroke engines with electronic fuel injection (EFI). EFI means crisper throttle response, smoother starts, and noticeably better fuel economy than older carbureted designs. That adds up to more time on the water with fewer stops at the pump.
These light-duty mid-range motors also deliver solid performance under cruise and dial down for precision trolling speed adjustments. They do so with a variable trolling RPM switch that fine-tunes idle in 50-RPM steps. Both engines pair well with aluminum fishing boats, jon boats, inflatables, tenders, skiffs, and small runabouts.
There are also two control configurations available:Tiller-handle steering lets you control direction and throttle right at the engine, which is great for skiffs and fishing boats. Remote mechanical controls use a steering wheel and console-mounted throttle.
Another benefit is the lightweight, streamlined design and easy handling. Both motors weigh around 220 lbs, making them more manageable for single-person installation and trailering. The 20-inch standard shaft fits most transom heights, and you also get a built-in freshwater flush device for easy engine flushing.
RJ Nautical backs it all up with Yamaha-certified technicians and genuine parts. We handle oil and lube, fuel system cleaning, lower unit service, propeller work, and even corrosion prevention. We’ll handle the routine care your motor needs for an extended engine life.
What is the difference between the Yamaha 40hp and 30hp outboards?
Both share the same four-stroke EFI platform, 20-inch shaft length, and overall weight class. The main difference is peak output: 40hp vs. 30hp at 5,500 RPM. The 40hp engine has the edge when you’re pushing a heavier hull or want more acceleration and top-end speed. Both are available in tiller and remote mechanical configurations.
Does RJ Nautical service the Yamaha 40 hp outboard after purchase?
Absolutely. RJ Nautical is California’s highest-credentialed Yamaha Marine Service Pro Elite dealer, with only Yamaha-certified technicians on staff. Our service menu covers oil and lube, fuel system cleaning, lower unit service, propeller maintenance, and corrosion prevention.
What size boat is a Yamaha 40hp outboard motor suitable for?
The Yamaha 40hp is well-suited to aluminum fishing boats, jon boats, small runabouts, and inflatables in roughly the 14- to 18-foot range. If you’re not sure whether the 30 or 40 is the right fit for your hull, give us a call. We’ll walk you through hull weight, intended use, and propeller selection so you get the most out of either engine.
